Another Fabulous Friday!

Last week I kicked off Fabulous Fridays by introducing you to three authors I’ve become acquainted with over the past few months.   I very quickly determined that I needed to drop that number to one per week because it’s not really spotlighting an author when he or she is just one of the crowd.  I’m not sure how impressive being spotlighted on my blog is going to be because I’m just getting started at this…and discovering that it’s not as easy as I originally thought it might be.  So, word of warning, they’re likely to be a hair on the short side until I find my footing.

Anyway…

This week I’d like you to meet Melissa Luznicky Garrett, author of Precipice and Turning Point.

I first came across Melissa’s blog a month or so ago after reading about her monthly writing challenges.  It sounded like a lot of fun to me so I checked it out.  The graphics that greeted me at the top of the page made me smile because, quite honestly, it’s absolutely adorable.  The smile, however, disappeared when my chin hit the floor – after reading that she and her husband have eight children.

She looks too young to have eight kids!

But then I had to chuckle because she clarified, in her bio, that five are of the four-legged variety.  Ah, a kindred spirit here.  Although I have Melissa beat by one, and I only have two of the two-legged variety.  There.  I finally owned up to the number of residents in my zoo.

But back to Melissa’s writing challenge.  I wanted to encourage other writers to have a look because it does sound like fun.  On the first of each month she gives you five random words, a theme, and an image as a guideline, and you’re welcome to write a short story, poem, or song.  On the first of the following month, post whatever you came up with on your blog, then link to it on hers.  While there, you can get the new writing prompt so you can do it again.  And again and again.

What I like about this concept is that it does sound fun, it is a challenge.  It will also make you think outside the box, and seems like a great way to make friends with other like-minded people.  So check it out and see how creative you can be.

This month the random words are:  network, comic, seat, credit card, and pincer.  The theme is frivolity, and the image is:

Good luck!  And send some my way because I think I’m gonna need it!  While you’re at it, drop by Melissa’s blog and have a look around.  The bright and uplifting theme you’ll find there will likely put a smile on your face, too!

  1. First off . . . THANK YOU for saying I look young (I don’t care that you qualified it as my being too young to have eight children, all I heard was the “young” part!).

Secondly, THANK YOU for spotlighting me here!! I hope you and yours will come for a visit and decide to hang out for a while. 😀

    • LOL…you’re welcome. And I was happy to do it. Not sure exactly how many ‘yours’ I have at the moment, but I’m working on it. I, for sure, will be visiting yours blog regularly. And hoping that my brain is creative enough to get something ready for the writing challenge. Just out of curiosity, what are orange things on the tray? They look about the size of orange halves, but they look too orange. 🙂

      • I’m really not sure what those are. LOL! I said to a friend today, “Why the heck did I choose that picture?!” Whatever it is . . . it looks quite gross. 😉

      • I am REALLY glad to hear that, lol. I’ve come up with a few ideas for the challenge, but they all pretty much involve mentioning the unappetizing relish tray. And then I thought maybe I shouldn’t because it might be a family favorite or something. I know we like some things that could look pretty disgusting to people who don’t know what they are (most notably ‘bean dip,’ which is one of my son’s very favorite meals). 🙂

  2. Ooh five four legged friends sounds even more inspiring. I have 3 and they are just the best things in the world. Thanks for sharing Mellisa’s blog. I will look it up.

    • Glad you liked it, Suma! And I hope you do check Melissa’s blog out. And maybe consider joining the writing challenge. It looks like a lot of fun. Glad to hear you like animals, too. We have five cats and two dogs living in my zoo. 🙂
