Part of the reason NaNoWriMo works for so many people, is that we can see, through their counter, how we’re progressing. I don’t have a clue how they get that thing to work, but as long as the group doesn’t get huge, I thought people could post their daily totals in the comments section on this page. Then once a week I can total them up, record them below (I’ll delete the comments – because if I don’t, it could wind up being about ten miles long)  🙂

So who is joining us for our first annual February writing challenge? Hopefully this will help enough that we’ll continue throughout the year…April, June, August, and maybe October, but that’s really close to NaNo (National Novel Writing Month), and we’ll need some time to plot out the novels we want to write for that event.

Rules? There are no rules. Set your monthly goal at the level that’s comfortable – and doable for you…whether it’s 1,000 words, or 50,000. And then just check in here with your word counts. If it helps, you can announce it on your blog, website, Facebook and Twitter, too.

The more public our goals, the more likely we are to achieve them.

One last thing, if you don’t have Tweetdeck yet, you might check it out. That’s where I became acquainted with the #wordmongering crowd. They really help keep me on track with 30 minute (or shorter…or longer) writing challenges. For some reason it helps to know I’m ‘working’ with others.

So anyway…I wanted to get this up yesterday…and did not. But, better late than never. Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s time to start writing.

  21. what if I want to do a blog a day goal? would that work? or does it have to be number of words? L&P jaki

  22. This is my first day back to social media after all the editing and DANG! look at all those pingbacks. Hehe. I’m in. I already set a goal for my MS. I’m going for 40,000 words this month. I haven’t done the math yet to figure out how many I actually did last night – first full offical day. Do you need the figures by day?

    • Welcome back! I was actually going to send you a message last night, but realized something was going on with my computer…so I was running antispyware stuff instead. 🙂

And no, you can update as often as it works for you. Right now I’m still TRYING to get the third book in my series edited, but every time I turn around, something else is demanding my attention.

      • I know that feeling. That’s how my day went yesterday. Then I fell asleep in front of the computer during my writing time. 😦 I got a denial from jury services in the mail today. I guess having no one to watch my little ones is no longer a good excuse. Not sure what I’m going to do. Get arrested?

        Only 1545 words. Boo.

  23. I should probably mention that I won’t be jumping in here until Valentine’s Day. I figure that I did the NaNoWriMo challenge in 12 days, so I should be able to 50,000 words in 14 this month. I need to finish an editing goal so the third book in my series will be available on the 14th. But I’ll keep checking in here to see how everyone is doing, and to cheer you on. See you in 8 days. 🙂
